DeLUBE and "tasting" sex

We originally intended DeLUBE as an antimiocrobial gel to help in preventing STD's like HIV and also for preventing premature labor in pregnant women, in which the cervix is infected by sperm transport of bacteria. We selected benzalkonium chloride, which has a 60 + year history as a surgical disinfectant and a 40+ year use as an intravaginal contraceptive. 'BZK' also decreases surface tension, which makes gels spread smoothly, and it is used as a preservative in contact lens solutions, reaffirming its gentleness to delicate tissues. BZK had already been established as extremely efective against HIV and chlamydia in the medical literature. Evidence has also emerged that glycerin (in high concetration in DeLUBE) is a 'natural'' anti-HIV agent.

We also added Ginseng, which is an NO donor. Aroma is an important determinant of mood and desire, and because there were no scented personal lubricants at that time, we decided to 'aromatize' DeLUBE with an alcohol free, plant material. The E-Gal selected a special variety of Vanilla, which turned out to be more than inspired. When we began our pre-release testing program, we were surprised that most of the respondents told us that DeLUBE really felt great, and that it provided them with a richer experience than with any other lubricant they had used. Genital skin in men and women has a rich network of sensory nerves that have a special sensitivity to spices like pepper and ginger. These VANILLOID receptors are only present in the mouth and in genital skin. In designing DeLUBE we had chanced upon a combination of materials (which, fortunately, we had patented) that in essence, lets people taste sex genitally, while it improves the mechanics of sex and adds a covert but powerful measure of disease prevention.
